Gage Pederson, Wrestling
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior wrestler Gage Pederson, of Hastings and graduate of Hastings High School is the Comet of the Week for Dec. 10-16.
Pederson, ranked No. 4 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association individual poll at 149 pounds, posted a 4-0 record in leading Olivet to a 3-1 record Dec. 16 at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas. In his first round, he beat top-ranked Kodie Silvestri from Wartburg (Iowa) College, 8-6. Pederson followed that match with three straight pins -- 4 minutes, 14 seconds over Tim Noverini from Coe (Iowa) College, 5 minutes, 35 seconds over Dan Colatari from Loras (Iowa) College and 4 minutes, 36 seconds over Matt Howell from Washington & Lee (Va.) University.
For the season, Pederson has a 14-4 record, with zero losses against NCAA Division III opponents. In addition, 10 of the teams have scored bonus points (five pins and five major decisions) for the Comets.
Olivet is now off until Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, when it competes at the Waynesburg (Pa.) University Invitational.
