Olivet College SAAC representatives participate in NCAA Forum
Six members of Olivet College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) along with advisors Sharonda Hurd and Chris Stewart participated in the NCAA Regional Career in Sports Forum March 16-18 at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
OLIVET, Mich. – Six members of Olivet College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) along with advisors Sharonda Hurd and Chris Stewart participated in the NCAA Regional Career in Sports Forum March 16-18 at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
The student-athletes representing Olivet were junior women’s basketball player Brittany Brown (Inkster/John Glenn), junior football player Keegan Clark (Battle Creek/Pennfield), sophomore women’s basketball player Heather Lauwers (Ortonville/Brandon), freshman track athlete Henry Pettway (East Lansing), sophomore wrestler Preston Treend (Casco/Richmond) and sophomore women’s soccer player Lindsey Winters (Plymouth/Canton).
“I was glad I could represent Olivet in front of other schools,” said Treend. “I felt our group from Olivet contributed a lot of energy and good insight into some of the discussions we had.”
At the forum, participants:
- Were educated about careers in athletics by key decision makers from member institutions and the NCAA.
- Learned a realistic view of the role of coach or administrator in collegiate athletics or conference offices, as well as, within the sports entertainment industry.
- Learned a realistic view of the role of coach or administrator in collegiate athletics or conference offices, as well as, within sports law and the sports entertainment industry.
- Networked with key decision makers from member institutions, sports law, sports media and entertainment, and the NCAA.
“The main thing I learned at the forum was networking,” said Lauwers. “Networking is a great way to get your name out and to meet new people who may be able to help lead you to the next step in your career. It was great to see and meet new people.”
