Olivet College’s Magro named MIAA Pitcher of the Week for baseball
Olivet College junior Jay Magro (Bridgman) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Week for baseball.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior Jay Magro (Bridgman) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Week for baseball. He is being honored for the first time this season and the second time in his career.
Magro was two outs away from throwing a no-hitter, finishing with a two-hitter in the Comets' 4-0 win over Hope College April 6 at Boeve Stadium in Holland. He struck out one and walked five. Against MIAA opponents this season, Magro has a perfect 3-0 record and allowed only earned one run in 21 innings for a 0.43 earned run average.
"Jay gave us another great pitching performance," said Olivet Head Coach Ted Mahan. "He has done a good job at keeping us in every game this season."
Olivet is back in action Wednesday for a nine-inning game at Aquinas College, beginning at 2 p.m. The Comets' next four-game MIAA series is against Albion College. The first two games will be played Saturday at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The series then moves to Franko Joranko Field in Albion for the final two games Sunday. Both doubleheaders will start at 1 p.m.
