MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Olivet College senior Zach Oshinsky has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. The award recognizes the top performers at each of nine positions from the previous week. Players are selected from nominations from their school's sports information directors.
For his heroic save in Olivet's 7-6 win over University of Wis.-Platteville, Oshinsky was the relief pitcher named to the team. With the Comets holding a 7-5 lead and nobody out in the bottom of the 10th inning, the bases were loaded and he inherited a 3-0 count on the first batter that he faced. That batter looked at two straight pitches for strikes and swung through the next pitch for the strikeout. The next batter walked on a full count to bring in a run and re-load the bases. Oshinsky got the next two batters to look at strike three on 2-2 counts to preserve the win.
The Comets return to the field in one week, Wednesday, March 7, when they face Anderson (Ind.) University for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana, is slated for 4 p.m.
