OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College football team travels to play Robert Morris (Ill.) University in its 2012 season-opener Saturday, Sept. 1 at Morris Field in Arlington Heights, Ill. The game marks the start of a new era in Comet football, as Dan Pifer begins his first season as the head coach. The Comets' roster features 129 players, including 11 seniors, 10 juniors, 13 sophomores and 95 freshmen. On offense, Olivet will be led by senior quarterback Tony Phillips and senior running back Edric Miller. Phillips played in four games last year, and completed 9-of-17 passes for 80 yards. Miller was second on the team with 131 carries for 596 yards and four touchdowns.
On defense, junior Charlie Adams and sophomore Ryan Armstrong are returning linemen. Armstrong topped the team last year with 9.5 tackles for loss, including five quarterback sacks for minus 39 yards. On special teams, senior Blake Iobe is expected to handle the placekicking duties, while junior Anthony Edwards is going to handle punting the ball. A year ago, Iobe made 15-of-17 PAT kicks and averaged 48.2 yards per kickoff. Edwards punted 49 times for a 34.8 yard average, with a long of 53 yards.
