Men’s swimming team loses to Kalamazoo, 154-140
The Olivet College men’s swimming team fell to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Kalamazoo College, 154-140, today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming team fell to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Kalamazoo College, 154-140, today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
The Comets had six individual event winners and one relay win. The only double winner was sophomore Brian Fiorillo (Southgate/Anderson), who swept the sprint freestyle events. He won the 50 in 21.68 seconds and 100 in 48.12 seconds.
Other winners were freshman Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Unidad Educativa Colegio) in the 200 butterfly, 1:58.49; junior Nick Edgar (Lansing/Everett) in the 100 backstroke, :54.61; sophomore Korey Mervenne (Jenison) in the 1,000 freestyle, 10:26.10; and senior Austin Munn (Pinckney) in the 200 freestyle, 1:48.79.
After the "A" relays for both schools were disqualified, Olivet's "B" 200 freestyle relay quartet of freshman Phil Bielak (Brownstown/Woodhaven), Edgar, sophomore Nick Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) and freshman Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton) was declared the winner. Their time was 1:55.50.
The Comets will swim their final MIAA dual meet next Saturday, Feb. 4, at Calvin College. Action from the Venema Aquatic Center starts at 1 p.m.
