Men’s swimming and diving team falls to Calvin, 162-124, in dual meet opener
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team opened the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 162-124 loss to Calvin College today at the Upton Center Pool.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming and diving team opened the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 162-124 loss to Calvin College today at the Upton Center Pool.
The Comets had six individual first-place finishes, including two double winners. Junior Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) won the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. He won the 50 in 21.94 seconds and the 100 in 49.20 seconds. Freshman Troy Wilkins (Lansing/Everett) swept the diving events. He totaled 226.60 points on the one-meter board, and 251.70 points on the three-meter.
Sophomore Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/San Vicente de Paul) took first-place in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:59.46. Freshman Taylor Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke, stopping the clock at 2:14.73.
Aoun was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.29) and 200-yard individual medley (2:04.14). Howard was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.77).
Both Olivet relays placed second. The 400-yard medley team of Aldrich, Aoun, freshman Eric Dawdy (Holt) and junior Adam Rhein (Leonard/Romeo) finished in 3:38.97. The 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of Aldrich, Howard, sophomore Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton) and sophomore Phil Bielak (Brownstown/Woodhaven) finished in 3:19.42.
Olivet is off for a week and will travel to Kalamazoo College for a 1 p.m. dual meet next Saturday, Nov. 3.
