Men’s swimming and diving team drops 140-128 decision at Hope
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team dropped a 140-128 decision to Hope College this afternoon at the Dow Center in Holland.
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming and diving team dropped a 140-128 decision to Hope College this afternoon at the Dow Center in Holland.
The Comets posted the fastest time in four individual events and one relay. Sophomore Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/San Vicente de Paul) was a double winner, as he took first in 100 butterfly (2:02.63) and 200 individual medley (2:03.81).
Junior Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) won the 50 freestyle in 22.18 seconds, while freshman Taylor Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:18.04.
The 400 freestyle relay team of senior Nick Edgar (Lansing/Everett), freshman Eric Dawdy (Holt), sophomore Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton) and Aldrich touched the wall first in 3:20.78.
Olivet student-athletes also finished second in six individual events and the 200 medley relay. Aldrich placed second in the 100 freestyle in 49.48 seconds. DeRupa was runner-up in the 200 freestyle in 1:55.02. Edgar was second in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 53.97 seconds. Junior Korey Mervenne (Jenison) finished second in the 1,000 freestyle in a season-best time of 10:23.23.
Freshman Christian Samon (Michigan Center/Jackson Lumen Christi) scored second-place points in both diving competitions, recording season-bests of 134.25 points on the one-meter and 128.85 points on the three-meter.
The 200 medley relay quartet of Edgar, junior Adam Rhein (Leonard/Romeo), Aoun and Aldrich placed second in 1:37.82.
The Comets will take next Saturday off and compete in two weeks, Jan. 19, when they host Albion College at 1 p.m.
