Men’s swimming and diving team edged by Alma, 149-127
The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team closed out the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 149-127 loss to Alma College today at the McClure Natatorium in Alma.
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming and diving team closed out the dual meet portion of its schedule with a 149-127 loss to Alma College today at the McClure Natatorium in Alma.
The Comets took first-place in six individual events and one relay. Freshman Troy Wilkins (Lansing/Everett) swept the diving events. He scored 256.10 points on the one-meter and broke the school record with an NCAA cut score of 310.85 points on the three-meter.
Also winning events were junior Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) in the 50 freestyle, :22.47; sophomore Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/San Vicente de Paul) in the 200 butterfly, 1:59.72; freshman Eric Dawdy (Holt) in the 200 individual medley, 2:05.60; and senior Nick Edgar (Lansing/Everett) in the 100 backstroke, :54.90.
Swimming on the first-place 200 medley relay was Edgar, junior Adam Rhein (Leonard/Romeo), Aoun and Aldrich. Their time was 1:39.77.
Junior Nick Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) was second in the 100 breaststroke, 1:04.14. Other runner-up finishes were by Aoun in the 100 butterfly, :54.30; Dawdy in the 50 freestyle, :22.91; and 200 backstroke, 2:02.73; sophomore Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton) in the 1,000 freestyle, 10:55.74; and junior Korey Mervenne (Jenison) in the 500 freestyle, 5:04.01.
Olivet will now turn its focus to the 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships Feb. 13-16 at Jenison High School.
