Women’s golf team finishes in fifth-place at the IWU Fall Classic
The Olivet College women’s golf team finished in fifth-place (out of 22 schools) at the 2012 Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic, which was played at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
NORMAL, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team finished in fifth-place (out of 22 schools) at the 2012 Illinois Wesleyan University Fall Classic, which was played at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
After posting a 322 in Saturday's first round, the Comets posted an identical 322 in today's second round for a 644 two-day total. William Woods (Mo.) University captured the team title with a 607 (309-298). The host Titans took second with a 624 (318-306), followed by Wittenberg (Ohio) University in third (637=308-328) and Rhodes (Tenn.) College in fourth (638=315-323).
Junior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) improved by two strokes today with a two-round total of 152 (77-75) strokes to tie for fifth-place in the player standings. Junior Adrienne Plourde (Redford/Thurston) was part of a tie for seventh-place and was only one stroke behind Damico at 153 (76-77). For their performances, they earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
Freshman Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) had the biggest improvement today, shooting four strokes better than Saturday's round with a two-round total of 168 (86-82) strokes. Junior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) completed her two rounds in 172 (83-89) strokes. Freshman Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) carded a total of 175 (87-88) strokes.
Olivet will now begin defense of its 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship when it hosts the first league jamboree Thursday at The Medalist Golf Club. The outing gets started at 1 p.m.
