Women’s golf team takes first at MIAA Jamboree #2, Damico is medalist
Led by junior Theresa Damico’s medalist performance, the Olivet College women’s golf team won the MIAA Jamboree #2 today at the Pine River Country Club in Alma. In addition, all five Comet golfers finished in the top 12 of the player standings.
ALMA, Mich. – Led by junior Theresa Damico's (White Lake/Lakeland) medalist performance, the Olivet College women's golf team won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #2 today at the Pine River Country Club in Alma. In addition, all five Comet golfers finished in the top 12 of the player standings.
The Comets carded 320 team score to beat runner-up Calvin by 15 strokes. Hope was third at 336, followed by Saint Mary's (Ind.) at 340, Alma (370), Adrian (371), Trine (Ind.) (372), Albion (378) and Kalamazoo (402).
Damico, who was also the medalist at the first MIAA jamboree, post a four-over par 76. Junior Adrienne Plourde (Redford/Thurston) was second in the player standings with a 78. Freshmen Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) and Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) were both part of a five-way tie for sixth with 83s. Junior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) was two strokes behind them with an 85.
The win also allows the Comets to open a 28-stroke lead over Hope (644-672) in the overall MIAA seasonal standings. Calvin is one stroke behind Hope at 673, followed by Saint Mary's (678), Trine (733), Adrian (760), Albion (775), Kalamazoo (843).
The third league jamboree will be held next Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Blackthorn Golf Club in South Bend, Ind.
