Women’s golf team leads MIAA season-ending tournament by 17 strokes and overall standings by 45
The Olivet College women’s golf team will take a 45-stroke lead into the final round of the MIAA season. The Comets posted a 323 team score in today’s first round of the season-ending tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. Tomorrow’s final round gets under way at 10 a.m.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team will take a 45-stroke lead into the final round of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) season. The Comets posted a 323 team score in today's first round of the season-ending tournament at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. Tomorrow's final round gets under way at 10 a.m.
Olivet's 323 team score was 17 strokes better than Hope College and Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, who tied for second with 340s. Calvin College is fourth at 349, followed by Adrian 358, Trine (Ind.) 379, Alma 391, Albion 395 and Kalamazoo 424.
Three of the top four golfers in the player standings are Comets. Junior Adrienne Plourde (Redford/Thurston) is the top golfer with a six-over par 78. Junior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) is one stroke behind at 79 to be a part of a two-way tie for second-place.
Junior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) carded an 81, which is a season-best, 18-hole score for her and places her fourth in the player standings. Freshman Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) tied for 11th with an 85. Freshman Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) is part of a tie for 15th with an 88.
Olivet has totaled 1,651 strokes over the first five MIAA rounds. Hope is second and only two strokes ahead of Saint Mary's, 1,696-1,698. Calvin is fourth at 1,712, followed by Adrian 1,875; Trine 1,885; Albion 1,973; and Kalamazoo 2,131.
