Comets improve by 32 strokes in today's second round
MADISON, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team sits placed eighth (out of 20 teams) at the 2013 Washington (Mo.) University Spring Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links in Madison, Ill.
After posting a 350 team score in Saturday's first round, the Comets shaved 32 strokes off in today's round for a 318 and a two-round total of 668 strokes. William Woods (Mo.) University with a 623, followed by DePauw (Ind.) University, 631; the host Bears, 636; Birmingham Southern (Ala.) University, 659; Illinois Wesleyan University, 661; St. Olaf (Minn.) College, 663; and Wittenberg (Ohio) University, 664. Paige Gooch from DePauw was the tournament medalist with a 153.
Junior Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) had Olivet's best two-round score with a 162, which tied her for 13th-place in the player standings. Freshman Casey Lamp (Kalamazoo/Hackett Catholic) dropped 21 strokes off her first round, with a two-round total of 163 strokes. Of the 114 players competing in the tournament, she was the only one to shoot an under par round with a 71. In addition, the 71 is the second-best round in school history.
Junior Adrienne Plourde (Redford/Thurston) improved by three strokes for a two-round total of 171. Freshman Brooke Kastamo (Howell/Hartland) finished nine strokes better today for a 175 total. Junior Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) was only one stroke behind with a 176.
Olivet will next compete at the 2013 Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14 at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
