Women’s golf team wins MIAA playoff to earn automatic bid to national championships
The Olivet College women’s golf team used a superior performance today to finish in first-place in the third MIAA playoff round. By virtue of the finish, the Comets also secure the conference’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA DIII National Championships.
MARSHALL, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team used a superior performance today to finish in first-place in the third Michigan Intercollegiate Association (MIAA) playoff round. By virtue of the finish, the Comets also secure the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA DIII National Championships.
In today's round at The Medalist Golf Club, Olivet carded a 322 team score. Saint Mary's (Ind.) College took second at 335, followed by Hope 340 and Calvin 359. The Comets dominated the three-round playoff with a 971 total. Saint Mary's was 77 strokes behind at 1,048, followed by Hope 1,051 and Calvin 1,096.
Junior Adrienne Plourde was the medalist with a two-over par 74, with 16 pars and two bogies. Junior Theresa Damico was third in the player standings with an 80. She had birdies on Holes 12 and 17. Freshman Casey Lamp shared sixth-place with an 83, with a birdie on Hole 6. Freshman Brooke Kastamo was 10th with an 85.
As a team, the Comets were only +5 on the par 3s and +4 on the par 5s. Overall, Olivet had 40 pars.
The 2013 NCAA Division III National Championships are May 14-17 at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.
