Soccer camps taking place at Olivet College
Approximately 200 campers, ages three to 13, participated in the Sixth Annual Olivet College Kids’ Soccer Camp this week.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Approximately 200 campers, ages three to 13, participated in the Sixth Annual Olivet College Kids' Soccer Camp this week. Olivet Head Women's Soccer Coach Hans Morgan and Head Men's Soccer Coach Chad Wiseman served as co-directors for the camp. Helping them were assistant coach, Jen Leone, and members of the Olivet men's and women's soccer teams.
Over the next week, 22 high school junior varsity and varsity boys' soccer teams will participate in two team camps. First, 12 teams will participate in a team residential camp July 29-31, and then an additional 10 teams will participate in a commuter team camp Aug. 1-4. Some of the schools scheduled to participate include Cadillac, Caledonia, DeWitt, Portage Northern and Vicksburg. Overall, in the two weeks of soccer camps, more than 450 people will have participated.
"There are some positive benefits to these camps," said Morgan. "First, the younger kids get the opportunity to learn the game of soccer with other kids, who are at the same skill level. Second, the high school campers will get a chance to enhance their skills before the start of their official practices. We are also able to use the camps as a fundraiser, so we can purchase some much needed equipment for our own program."
"These camps give us the chance to showcase the facilities here at Olivet," continued Wiseman. "We work hard to give the campers a great experience with hopes they remember that when selecting a college."
