Women’s swimming team beats Albion, 157-123
The Olivet College women’s swimming team recorded first-place finishes in 12-of-16 events en route to a 157-123 win over Albion College this morning at the Dean Aquatic Center in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College women's swimming team recorded first-place finishes in 12-of-16 events en route to a 157-123 win over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College this morning at the Dean Aquatic Center in Albion.
The Comets were led by senior Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton) and freshman Kaitlin Smith (Port Huron), who each won three individual events and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay. Lohr swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:15.47 and the 200 in 2:38.46. She also won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.42. Smith won the backstroke events, the 100 in 1:04.90 and 200 in 2:21.37. Her third win was in the 200 individual medley in 2:21.17. Joining Lohr and Smith on the 200 medley relay was sophomores Alivia Hammond (Byron Center) and Jana Blodgett (Sturgis), and their time was 1:58.42.
Freshman Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) took first-place in the 50 (:25.98) and 100 (:55.23) freestyle. Olivet also swept the distance freestyle events. Freshman Shana Bush (Alma) won the 1,000 in 11:19.42, while senior Jessica Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) won the 500 in 5:29.96.
Sophomore Camieo Green (Battle Creek/Harper Creek), Hammond, Blodgett and Johnson swam to a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:45.48.
Howard led a 2-3-4 Olivet finish in the 200 freestyle. She finished in 2:04.04, followed by Johnson and Bush in 2:04.83 and 2:09.32, respectively. Sophomore Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) was the Comets' best finisher in the 200 butterfly, as she placed second in 2:29.56.
Olivet is now off until Friday-Saturday, Dec. 2-3, when it participates in the TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
