Women’s swimming team in fourth-place after first day of Carthage Classic

The Comets have collected 279 points and trails the host Lady Reds, 520; Lewis (Ill.) University, 385.5; and Lake Forest (Ill.) College, 341.5.
KENOSHA, Wis. – The Olivet College women's swimming team is in fourth-place after the first day of competition at the Carthage CollegeSwimming.com Classic at the Koenitzer Aquatic Center in Kenosha, Wis. The Comets have collected 279 points and trails the host Lady Reds, 520; Lewis (Ill.) University, 385.5; and Lake Forest (Ill.) College, 341.5.
Olivet took first-place in the first event of the evening finals, the 200 freestyle relay. The team of senior Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton), junior Jana Blodgett (Sturgis), sophomore Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) and freshman Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) stopped the clock at 1:39.79. The Comets were fourth in the 400 medley relay (4:12.50) and fifth in the 800 freestyle relay (8:36.34).
Johnson won the 100 freestyle in 53:67 seconds. In the 200 individual medley, Long and freshman Kaitlin Smith (Port Huron) were ninth (2:19.30) and tenth (2:20.46), respectively.
Freshman Shana Bush (Alma) placed ninth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:29.12, while senior Jessica Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was right behind her in 10th (5:29.66). Blodgett finished in ninth-place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:20.08.
In the 200 backstroke, sophomore Jacalyn Cordero (Holland) touched the wall in seventh-place with a time of 2:18.71. Long finished in sixth-place in the 200 butterfly (2:24.32).
Action concludes tomorrow with preliminaries at 9 a.m. CT and finals at 4 p.m. CT.
