Women’s swimming team maintains fourth-place after third day of 2012 MIAA Championships
After three days of competition, the Olivet College women’s swimming team continues to sit in fourth-place at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, hosted by Hope College and held inside the Holland Community Aquatic Center.
Long wins silver medal in 400 IM
HOLLAND, Mich. – After three days of competition, the Olivet College women's swimming team continues to sit in fourth-place at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, hosted by Hope College and held inside the Holland Community Aquatic Center.
The Comets have 276 points and are ahead of Alma College, 243; Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, 208; and Albion College, 176. Calvin College is in first-place with 562.5 points, followed by Hope, 455; and Kalamazoo College, 396.5.
In the 400 IM, sophomore Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) had Olivet's best finish tonight, as she touched the wall second in a season-best time of 4:48.61. Senior Jessica Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) won the consolation heat to finish ninth overall with a time of 5:00.38.
The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Jacalyn Cordero (Holland), freshman Kaitlin Smith (Port Huron), senior Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton) and freshman Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) finished in fourth-place with a time of 1:50.94.
In the 100 backstroke, sophomore Alivia Hammond (Byron Center) finished in third-place with a time of 1:00.96. Cordero placed seventh in 1:02.15. Smith took first-place in the consolation final for an overall ninth-place finish with a time of 1:02.54. Junior Chelsea Mullins (Macomb/L'Anse Creuse North) posted a season-best time of 1:03.81 to finish in 13th-place.
In the 100 butterfly, Lohr finished in eighth-place, stopping the clock at 1:01.88. Johnson was eighth in the 200 freestyle. Junior Jana Blodgett (Sturgis) recorded the top Comets' finisher in the 100 breaststroke, as she placed 15th in 1:19.29.
Action wraps-up tomorrow with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5:30 p.m.
