The Comets welcome back four letterwinners from last year's team. Leading this group is junior Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield), who has played at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles from the time she stepped on the court for Olivet. Her career records are 22-14 in singles and 21-14 in doubles. For her efforts, LaValley earned 2010 and 2011 second-team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) honors.
Senior captain Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia/Central) returns for her final season in a Comet uniform. She will slide up one spot to play No. 2 singles and team with LaValley at No. 1 doubles. Singer enters her final season with a 26 wins in singles play, including a 10-8 record last year. She has also won at least 10 doubles matches each year to post a 32-24 record.
Senior Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) has been a part of the program for the last three years and looks to finish her senior season on a high note. After playing in the bottom half of the lineup each of her first three seasons, she will move into the No. 3 singles flight. Baker has 19 total career wins, including 11 in doubles play.
Senior Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) transferred to Olivet last year from Muskegon Community College. The majority of her playing time on the tennis court was spent in doubles action, as she won seven matches, including six at the No. 3 flight. This season, she will play No. 4 singles and team with Baker at No. 2 doubles.
Two first-year players, Megan Post (Marshall) and Courtney Kidder (Davison), will complete Olivet's starting lineup at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. They will then play together at No. 3 doubles.
Olivet will open its season Saturday, March 3, when it plays Indiana Tech. The next day, Sunday, March 4, the Comets will begin their MIAA schedule when they host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. Olivet will then play four non-conference matches during its spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Upon returning home, the Comets will play their final eight MIAA matches.
