Women’s tennis team ends Spring Break trip with win over Farleigh Dickinson
The Olivet College women’s tennis team ended its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., today with a 5-4 win over Farleigh Dickinson (N.J.) University.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Olivet College women's tennis team ended its Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C., today with a 5-4 win over Farleigh Dickinson (N.J.) University.
The Comets won only one doubles match, but pulled out the victory by winning four-of-six singles flights. In doubles, the No. 1 duo of junior Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and senior Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) posted an 8-4 pro-set win.
LaValley was up 6-0 at No. 1 singles when her opponent retired from the match. Singer did not lose any games en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Senior Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3 singles.
Freshman Megan Post (Marshall) won the match for Olivet with a come-from-behind three-set thriller at No. 5 singles. After dropping the first set 6-0, she bounced back to win the second set 6-2 and force a super tiebreaker for the third set. Post won that tiebreaker, 13-11.
The Comets will resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play Tuesday, March 27, when they travel to play Alma College at 4 p.m.
