Women’s tennis team loses 6-3 matches to East Stroudsburg and Western New England

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Olivet College women's tennis match fell to East Stroudsburg (Pa.) University and Western New England (Mass.) University by identical 6-3 scores today at Shipyard Racquet Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Warriors claimed wins in two-of-three doubles flights, and four-of-six singles flights to earn the win.

FOR THE COMETS

  • Olivet's point in doubles play came at the No. 1 slot where juniors Maddy Drikakis and BreAnne Rudlaff cruised to an 8-2 win.
  • The Comets earned wins at the top two singles positions.
  • At No. 1, Drikakis needed a tiebreaker to win the first set, 7-6 (6), before dropping the second set 6-3. She came back to win the match-tiebreaker, 10-8.
  • At No. 2, sophomore Rachael Hager rallied for her win. She lost the first set, 7-6 (6), and won the second set 6-3 to force the match-tiebreaker, which she won 11-9.

  • The Comets took a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
  • The Golden Bears won 5-of-6 singles flights to win the match 6-3. Three of the singles matches went to three sets, with Western New England winning all three.

FOR THE COMETS

  • Winning in doubles were the No. 2 duo of Hager and sophomore Rae Claramunt, 9-7, and the No. 3 duo of freshman Miranda Pier and senior Isabel Snyder, 8-5.
  • Pier picked-up a straight set, 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles.
