Women’s track and field team finishes in seventh-place at MIAA Jamboree
The Olivet College women’s track and field team finished in seventh-place at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree, which was hosted by Albion College on Elkin Isaac Track. The Comets collected 305 points, while Hope College won the team title.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College women's track and field team finished in seventh-place at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree, which was hosted by Albion College on Elkin Isaac Track. The Comets collected 305 points, while Hope College won the team title.
Sophomore Jenna Mayle (Ionia) placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 1:09.60 for Olivet's highest finish in the running events. Junior Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western) and freshman Brandi Rimmer (Flint/Carman Ainsworth) each recorded a fifth-place finish. Gaarde was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (:17.32), and Rimmer was fifth in the 200-meter dash (:26.78).
Gaarde and Rimmer along with sophomores Heather Lauwers (Ortonville/Brandon) and Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) finished in third-place in the 4x100-meter relay. They clocked-in with a season-best time of 51.39 seconds.
Sophomore Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) had the Comets' best placement in the field events. She was third in the discus throw with a 125 foot, 11 inch throw.
Olivet is back in action next Saturday, April 21, when it participates in the Al Owens Classic at Grand Valley State University.
