Two fifth-inning home runs lift UOlivet past Otterbein, 5-3

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Olivet baseball team hit two home runs in the fifth inning, as the Comets defeated Otterbein University (Ohio), 5-3, today at Crosley Field and on day three of the Ripken Baseball Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals seized an early 1-0 lead behind a run in the fourth inning.
- The Comets did all their scoring in the fifth inning. Freshman Wyatt Ball walked on four pitches to begin the inning. Four pitches later, senior Tyler Duncan blasted a home run. Freshman Mario Ricard was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third base before junior EJ Suggitt drew a full-count walk. Junior Isaac Moore unloaded the bases with a three-run home run over the center field fence.
- Otterbein got one run back in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly. The Cardinals scored once and left two runners stranded in the eighth. Otterbein brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the ninth before a flyout and strikeout on three called strikes ended the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet totaled just five hits.
- Duncan was 2-for-3.
- Ball, Moore and junior Austin Alflen each tallied one hit.
- On the mound, freshman Dawson Sherman picked up the win. He gave up three runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out three. Junior Logan Lewis recorded the final four outs to earn the save.
