Indoor track and field teams compete at IWU Invitational
The Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams participated in the 2013 Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational today at the Troyer Fieldhouse in Marion, Ind. The meet featured schools from all NCAA and NAIA levels.
MARION, Ind. – The Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams participated in the 2013 Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational today at the Troyer Fieldhouse in Marion, Ind. The meet featured schools from all NCAA and NAIA levels.
Men
On the men's side, sophomore Jalen Weaver (Albion) had Olivet's top performance on the track, finishing in second-place in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:35.92. Freshman Damien Johnson (Battle Creek/Central) was fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.19 seconds, and sophomore Henry Pettway (East Lansing) was not too far behind in eighth with a time of 7.27 seconds.
Pettway also finished sixth in the long jump with a school-record leap of 6.41m/21'0.50".
Women
On the track for the women, sophomore Cassie Ciaravino (Lapeer/East) placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.56 seconds. She also broke her own school record in the long jump with a 5.46m/17'11" leap, which placed her third.
Despite a 12th-place finish in the pole vault, freshman Danielle Hoffman (Parma/Western) broke her own school record in the pole vault by two centimeters with a 2.75m/9'0.25" clearance. Fellow freshman Lauren Easton (Jackson/Parma Western) also cleared 2.75m to tie Hoffmanfor the school record. Junior Sara Wegener (Lansing/Lansing Catholic) set a school record in the shot put with a 11.32m/37'1.75" throw.
Olivet will compete at the Trine (Ind.) University Invitational next Friday, Feb. 1. Events start at 4 p.m.
