Women’s tennis team defeats Lebanon Valley, 7-2
The women’s tennis team defeated Lebanon Valley (Pa.) College, 7-2, this afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Olivet College women's tennis team defeated Lebanon Valley (Pa.) College, 7-2, this afternoon in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Comets got off to a fast start by winning 2-of-3 doubles flights. The No. 1 duo of sophomore Caitlin LaValley (Battle Creek/Pennfield) and junior Kelsey Singer (Brooklyn/Columbia Central) won 8-6, while the No. 3 duo of junior Jenna Baker (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) and junior Paige Sedgewick (Lennon/ Powers Catholic) posted an 8-3 win.
Olivet won 5-of-6 singles flights. LaValley and freshman Rachael Horn (Niles) picked-up identical 6-3, 6-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. Junior Giana Guerra (Lansing/Waverly) won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2. Singer earned a hard fought, three-set win at No. 3 singles. She won the first set, 7-6, lost the second set, 6-1, and then won the match tiebreaker, 10-8. Baker coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
The Comets will play Bridgewater (Va.) College tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
