Bio
As athlete “par excellence”, he was outstanding in
baseball, track and football. In all three sports he contributed
enthusiastic and skillful leadership. His dedication as a team
player is signified by the fact that many who played beside him set
records and became champions in their own right.
With his brother Rex, he sparked the the 1911 Comet baseball team
to its solid championship in the MIAA. Few teams even in a
championship season can boast an undefeated record, yet this was
his rightful claim. In football, he proved that smallness of size
did not mean limited liability. At a mere 140 pounds, he played
right guard against highly competitive teams, and few gained
yardage through his position. In track, he again won laurels for
his accomplishments.
His college contributions went beyond the sports arena. He
directed the production and editing of the Olivet College Echo, the
campus newspaper. He befriended all newcomers to the campus and
participated in many extracurricular activities.
His impact on the college involved both the human effort and the
human spirit. Olivet sports history and traditions are richer
because of his contributions.
Olivet College is honored to induct him into the Athletic Hall of
Fame.
