Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - November 29, 2021

The Dean Trailways Co-Male Comets of the Week are senior men’s basketball players Derrick Johnson, of Pontiac, and graduate of Avondale High School, and Eddie Thigpen, of Saginaw, and graduate of Saginaw High School. The duo helped Olivet split two games and were named to the All-Tournament Team at the University of Rochester Holiday Inn Downtown Tournament. In the Comets’ first game, a 95-81 victory over Elmira (N.Y.) College, Johnson and Thigpen each scored 19 points. Johnson also contributed six rebounds, six assists and three steals, while not committing a turnover in 37 minutes. Thigpen also tallied four rebounds, two steals and a block. In the championship game against the host Yellowjackets, a 67-48 loss, Thigpen scored a team-best 15 points followed by Johnson with 13 points. Thigpen also recorded five rebounds and an assist, while Johnson had six rebounds and three assists.
