Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - December 13, 2021

The Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is Justin Carnahan, of Corunna, and graduate of New Lothrop High School. Wrestling at 184 pounds, Carnahan won both of his matches at the Wartburg (Iowa) College / Dick Walker Duals. He pinned Jacob Skelnar from University of Wisconsin-Platteville 26 seconds into the second period after being down by a 9-8 score to start the period. Carnahan then defeated David Papach from Wartburg, 10-6. The difference in the bout were a reversal and four-point near-fall in the first period.

The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is Rachel Swartz, of Battle Creek, and graduate of Pennfield High School. Swartz posted a double-double, 16 points and 13 rebounds, to lead the women’s basketball team in its 58-29 home-opening win over Great Lakes Christian College. She made 8-of-13 baskets for her 16 points and all 13 rebounds were off the defensive glass. Swartz followed that performance with seven rebounds and five blocks against nationally-ranked Trine (Ind.) University.
