Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - December 6, 2021

The Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is Dylan Briggs, of Bancroft, and graduate of Corruna High School. Briggs posted a perfect 5-0 record to capture the 165-pound weight class title at the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational. He started the day with back-to-back pins – 2:48 over Adrian Salomone from Wilmington (Ohio) College and 2:04 over Evan Atchley from University of Dubuque (Iowa). Briggs followed that with a 10-2 major decision over Ethan Nash from Trine (Ind.) University and 16-0 technical fall over Zach Altman from Adrian College. In the championship match, he won 6-1 over Jordan Hardrick from Ohio Northern. For his performance, he was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Wrestler and helped the Comets capture the team title by 16.5 points over the host Polar Bears.

The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is Jennifer Mann, of Orange, California, and graduate of Villa Park High School. Mann advanced to the “A” finals in each of her four individual events at the Carthage (Wis.) College Invitational. She won the 200-yard breaststroke to go along with finishing second in the 400-yard individual medley relay, sixth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle. Mann’s preliminary time of 4:40.20 shattered the school record.
