Dean Trailways Male Comets of the Week - December 5, 2022

The Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is senior Owen Guilford, of Portland, and graduate of Portland High School. Guilford won the 174-pound title at the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Invitational. He posted a 4-0 record with two wins by fall (1:10 and 2:29), one by technical fall (19-2) and one by major decision (12-2). In the four wins, Guilford outscored his opponents 39-4 in match points.

The Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is senior Derrick Johnson, of Pontiac, and graduate Avondale High School. Johnson averaged 19.5 points in helping the men’s basketball team split two games at the Washington University / Lopata Classic. In the first game, a 76-73 loss to Pomona-Pitzer College, he had 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from behind the arc. In the consolation game, a 75-71 win over Eureka (Ill.) College, Johnson scored 18 points. For the two games, he made 13-of-25 (52 percent) baskets, including 12-of-21 three-pointers. For his efforts, Johnson was named to the all-tournament team.
