Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - February 6, 2023
The Dean Trailways Male Comet of the Week is junior Everett Haynes, of Chicago, Illinois, and graduate of Gwendolyn Brooks Preparatory Academy. Haynes helped the men’s volleyball team post a 2-3 record last week, including a 2-2 mark at the Judson (Ill.) University Eagles Classic. Over the five matches and 18 sets played, he totaled 128 set assists (7.11 per set). The total pushed him over the 1,000 career assists plateau. In addition, Haynes had 13 kills, five aces, 35 digs and six blocks.
Other notable male performers last week were Jordon Brown (track and field), Chris Davis (track and field), Emmett Kettel (wrestling) and Byron Pearce (track and field).
The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is sophomore Emily Norkowski, of Fife Lake, and graduate of Forest Area High School. Norkowski competed in five events at the Trine (Ind.) University Mrs. G Invitational. She finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.94 finals, 9.81 prelims) and fourth in the long jump (16 feet, 1/2 inch). In the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash, Norkowski ran personal best indoor times of 8.45 and 28.34 seconds, respectively. She ended the day by running a leg of the 4x400-meter relay (4:29.25), which placed third among the “A” relays.
Other notable female performers last week were Lily Connelly (basketball) and London Eldridge (track & field).
