Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - November 13, 2023

The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is junior Clara Shoales, of Troy, and graduate of Athens High School. Shoales made the winning basket with eight seconds left to help the women’s basketball team defeat Bluffton (Ohio) University, 64-63, in its season-opener. The basket came after she grabbed an offensive rebound on a missed shot by a teammate. Shoales finished the game with nine points and six rebounds.

The Dean Trailways Male Comets of the Week are seniors Dennis Simmons, of Ypsilanti, and graduate of Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, and Ricky Williamson, of Saginaw, and graduate of Carrollton High School. Playing in their final collegiate football game, Simmons and Williamson led the defense, as the Comets defeated Adrian College, 32-10. Simmons ended the game with five tackles, including a quarterback sack and assisted tackle for loss which resulted in safeties. Williamson totaled seven tackles and recovered a fumble. Both also were part of trick plays on offense, as Williamson scored Olivet’s second touchdown and Simmons scored the last touchdown.
