Comets of the Week - February 24, 2025
The Co-Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Owen Fremeau, of Jackson, and graduate of Western High School. With a mark of 53 feet and 10-1/2 inches, Fremeau finished second and broke the UOlivet indoor shot put record at the Hillsdale College Tune-Up. He also placed second in the weight throw (59 feet and 5 inches). Fremeau will have the top seed in both the shot put and weight throw this Saturday at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The Co-Male Comet of the Week is sophomore Nathan Richardson, of Flint, and graduate of Grand Blanc High School. Richardson averaged 18 points in helping the men’s basketball team win two games and secure the No. 4 seed in the 2025 MIAA Tournament. He started the week with 23 points, four assists and five steals in a 66-52 win over Hope College. Richardson closed the week with 13 points, two assists and three steals in a 85-69 win over Alma College. For the week, he made 14-of-25 baskets (56 percent), including two three-pointers, and 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) for his 36 points.
The Female Comet of the Week is sophomore Sophia Spahr, of Belmont, and graduate of Rockford High School. At the 2025 MIAA Swimming & Diving Championships, Spahr recorded a personal best time in each of her three individual events, as she was ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:18.41) and 10th in both the 400-yard individual medley (5:02.10) and 200-yard backstroke (2:17.88). Spahr’s time in the 400 IM ranks ninth in UOlivet history.
