CO-MALE COMET OF THE WEEK

Name: Bryan Carney
Sport: Baseball
Hometown / High School: Grosse Pointe Woods / Grosse Pointe North
Accomplishments: Carney seven innings to earn the win in the Comets’ season-opening game at Earlham College (Ind.). He struck out a program record 17 batters, allowing three hits and walking nobody. Carney threw 93 pitches, with 74 strikes and of his 17 punchouts, six were called third strikes.  

CO-MALE COMET OF THE WEEK

Name: Porter Kretschman
Sport: Basketball
Hometown / High School: Grand Rapids / Coopersville
Accomplishments: Kretschman averaged a double-double, 17.5 points and 15.5 rebounds, in leading the Comets to two wins which helped Olivet win the outright Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship. He scored 23 points and grabbed 18 rebounds against Adrian College and followed that with 12 points and 13 rebounds at Trine University (Ind.). For the week, Kretschman posted an 82.4 field percentage (14-of-17) and 87.5 free throw percentage (7-of-8). Also totaled five assists and three steals, while committing only three turnovers in 66 minutes.
