OLIVET, Mich. -- Justin Linzy has been selected as head track and field coach at Olivet College, according to announcement by Dave Sichterman, director of athletics. Linzy will oversee both the men’s and women’s programs. Former head men’s and women’s track & field coaches Jeff Kavalunas and Karen Lutzke are being retained and will hold the titles of head cross country coach/associate head track & field coach for the men’s and women’s programs, respectively.
“I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to be the new head track and field coach at Olivet College,” said Linzy. “We will continue to strive to develop our student-athletes and put a first class program out for competition. I look forward to being a part of the community at Olivet.”
Linzy, who begins his duties Monday, March 3, comes to Olivet after serving as an assistant cross country/track & field coach at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio, since Aug. 2012. While there, he assisted in all aspects of the program, including supervising daily workouts and practices and assisting in the organization and serving as meet directors at home meets.
Prior to joining the Muskingum staff, Linzy assisted in the start of the new track & field program at Huntington College in Montgomery, Ala. during the 2012 season. He has coached two NCAA Track & Field Championship qualifiers, nine NCAA Cross Country regional qualifiers, four individual conference champions and five all-conference individuals.
A native of Toledo, Ohio, Linzy earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management from Ohio Northern University in 2010. He was a two-sport athlete, football and track & field, for the Polar Bears, earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors in both sports. Linzy will receive his master’s degree in adult education from Muskingum in May.
