UOlivet bowling teams to compete at USBC sectional
OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's and women's bowling teams have qualified to compete at the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) sectional tournament Friday-Sunday, March 7-9.
The singles portion of the tournament will take place Friday, March 7, at Stardust Bowl in Addison, Illinois, for the men, and Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park for the women. The format for the singles tournament is six individual games. The team portion of the tournament will be held Saturday and Sunday, March 8-9, at Thunderbowl Lanes. The format for this part is four, 16-game Baker blocks for a total of 64 total games. The top four teams based on total pin fall for each gender will advance to the national tournament.
"We are extremely thrilled to have both the Olivet men and women qualify for the sectional tournament," said OIivet head coach Brandon Grice. "The women are competing in the sectionals for the first time in school history. I am excited to see what the men and women can do on the biggest stage with an opportunity to earn the right to qualify for the national finals. No matter happens, I am proud of what they have accomplished thus far this season."
The men finished second in the final 2024-25 American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA) standings, an improvement on 12 spots from a 16th-place finish in 2023-24. The women were fourth in the 2024-25 AHBA standings, which was 13 spots higher than last year's 17th-place finish. Overall, in the national rankings, the men are 58th after being 107th in 2023-24, and the women are 74th after being 110th last year.
