Baseball team splits doubleheader against Adrian
The Olivet College baseball team split a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Adrian College today in Olivet. The Comets (7-12, 4-6 MIAA) won the first game, 5-2, and lost the nightcap, 2-1.

The Olivet College baseball team split a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Adrian College today in Olivet. The Comets (7-12, 4-6 MIAA) won the first game, 5-2, and lost the nightcap, 2-1.
In the opener, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top half of the second. Olivet came back with a pair of runs in its half of the second. Adrian tied the game at 2-2 with a single tally in the third. The Comets took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth frame. Olivet added an insurance run in the fifth inning.
The Comets finished the game with six hits, including two by junior Derek Ott (Kawkawlin/ Bay City Western). He also drove in two runs. On the mound, junior Brian Schaeffer (Mason) went the distance, allowing six hits and striking out two.
In the nightcap, the Comets scored their run in the second inning. The Bulldogs immediately answered with two runs in the third inning. For the game, Olivet had four hits, including a triple by senior Eddie Jones (Warren/St. Clement). Freshman Mark Sherrod (Jackson) suffered the loss on the mound. He yielded six hits and struck out three in seven innings.
The Comets will complete the MIAA series against Adrian with a doubleheader Saturday, April 8 at 1 p.m.
