Olivet College’s Purdy named MIAA Player of the Week
Olivet College junior first baseman Scott Purdy (Traverse City/West) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week for April 21-27.
Olivet College junior first baseman Scott Purdy (Traverse City/West) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Player of the Week for April 21-27.
Purdy had a .571 batting average (12-for-21), as the Comets won four of seven MIAA games, including a one-day, three-game sweep of Alma College April 27. He also hit a home run, walked two times, scored three runs and collected four RBI.
For the season, Purdy ranks second on the team with a .348 batting average, 39 hits, 23 home runs, 54 total bases and .482 slugging percentage. He also has six doubles, three home runs and 16 runs scored. Purdy, who has started every game at first base, has made only five errors in 258 chances for a .981 fielding percentage.
Olivet (15-16, 13-7 MIAA) will play a non-conference game Tuesday at Oakland University, beginning at 3 p.m. The Comets will then play a key four-game league series against first-place Adrian College. The teams will play a doubleheader in Olivet Wednesday at 2 p.m., and then play a twinbill at Adrian's Nicolay Field Saturday at 1 p.m.
