Felix named MIAA Position Position Player of the Week
Olivet College junior first baseman Beau Felix (Hartland) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Position Player of the Week.
Olivet College junior first baseman Beau Felix (Hartland) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Position Player of the Week.
Felix posted a .667 batting average last week, as the Comets swept a four-game series against Alma College April 29 and May 1. He had 15 hits, including five doubles and two home runs, for a 1.400 slugging percentage. Felix also drove in five runs and scored eight runs. He reached base safely in 13-of-17 plate appearances. In addition, Felix did not commit an error in 39 chances at first base.
In a 12-5, 6-5 home doubleheader sweep April 29, Felix went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run in the opener, and then went 3-for-3 in the nightcap with two more doubles and a dramatic 2-run game-tying home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. In a 12-4, 11-8 sweep at Alma May 1, he was 3-for-8 and scored two runs.
For the season, Felix leads the team with 10 doubles. He is second on the team with a .407 batting average, .615 slugging percentage and .461 on-base percentage. Felix has also scored 22 runs and driven in 13 runs.
Felix and the Comets travel to Rochester Hills for a non-conference doubleheader tomorrow against Oakland University, starting at 2 p.m. Olivet will host Aquinas College Wendesday for a single nine-inning game at 4 p.m. The Comets will then play Trine (Ind.) University in their final four games of the 2010 season. On Friday, the teams will play a doubleheader at Olivet, beginning at 2 p.m., and on Sunday, they will play at Trine's Jannen Field at 1 p.m.
