Baseball team falls to SUNY-Fredonia, 9-3
The baseball team dug itself into a 9-0 hole and ended up on the losing end of a 9-3 score against SUNY-Fredonia today at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Olivet College baseball team dug itself into a 9-0 hole and ended up on the losing end of a 9-3 score against SUNY-Fredonia today at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Blue Devils pushed across single runs in each of the first two innings before scoring three runs in the fourth and four runs in the seventh for the 9-0 lead. Olivet got on the scoreboard with three unearned runs in the top half of the eighth inning. A trio of freshmen – Chase Carter (Bradenton, Fla./Bradenton Catholic), Andrew Engle (Greenville) and Joel Peters (Auburn Hills/Avondale) – each drove in a run.
For the game, the Comets recorded a season-high 13 hits, including 12 singles. Senior Braydon LaFramboise (Flushing/Mt. Morris) had two hits and drew walks in his other two plate appearances to raise his team-leading on-base percentage to .517. Senior Beau Felix (Hartland) and junior Austin Clark (Ossineke/Alpena) also collected two hits apiece.
Sophomore starting pitcher Justin Pitt (Imlay City) was the losing pitcher, as he yielded five earned runs on nine hits in three innings. Peters and juniors Aaron Campbell (Lansing/Waverly) and Ben Steffler (Lapeer/West) all pitched in relief.
Olivet (1-6) concludes its spring break tomorrow with a 9 a.m. game against University of Dubuque (Iowa).
