GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets pushed across three runs in the top of second inning on sacrifice fly by sophomore EJ Suggitt and back-to-back RBI-doubles by sophomore Austin Alflen and junior Tyler Duncan. The teams traded runs in the bottom of the third and top of fourth. Olivet's tally was a solo home run by Alflen. The Comets added to their lead in the sixth when Duncan hit a home run.
- The Battling Bishops trimmed their deficit down to two runs, 5-3, with a pair of runs in the home half of the sixth. Olivet exploded for five runs in the seventh and six runs in the eighth to take a commanding 16-3 lead. Ohio Wesleyan plated three runs in the last half of the eighth but it was not enough, as the game ended early due to the 10-run mercy rule.
- For the game, the Comets recorded 16 hits, as eight of the nine starters had at least one hit. Duncan was a single shy of hitting for the cycle, with two doubles, one triple and one home run. He drove in six runs to be only the 10th UOlivet player since the 2003 season to collect six RBI in one game. Duncan's 11 total bases are the most by a Comet since April 2, 2005, when Nick McIntosh and Chris Shelhart both had 14 against Tri-State (Ind.) University.
- Alflen was 3-for-4 (single, double, home run) with four runs scored and three RBI. Also recording a multi-hit game were senior Brendan Monroe (double and single), senior Mason Cook (two singles) and senior Mikey Kuzara (double and single).
- On the mound, junior Bryan Carney earned the win after throwing the first five innings, allowing one run on six hits. Sophomore Logan Lewis pitched the final three innings to pick-up the save.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Battling Bishops led 6-0 behind five runs in the first inning and one run in the second. Olivet got three runs back in the third before making the score 6-5 with a pair of runs in the fourth. The Comets grabbed a 9-6 lead when they scored four runs in the fifth. The big hit of the inning was a three-run home run by Suggitt.
- Ohio Wesleyan tied the score at 9-9 when it pushed across three runs in the sixth inning. Olivet used two home runs, a two-run homer by Cook in the seventh and three-run homer by Duncan in the eighth to take a 14-9 lead. The Battling Bishops did not give up, plating five runs in their part of the eighth to tie the game.
- The Comets pushed across four runs in the ninth inning. Cook reached base on an infield single and Alflen was hit by a pitch to move Cook to second base. A sharply hit single by junior Brody Parten found the outfield grass to allow Cook to score and advance Alflen to third base. After the second out was recorded, Parten stole second base to put two runners in scoring position. Suggitt then found the left-center gap with a two-run double and Duncan made the score 18-14 with an RBI-single.
- Ohio Wesleyan did not go down quietly in its half of the ninth inning. Two batters walked, followed by a pinch-hit single drove in a run and brought the tying run to the plate. A foul out ended the game.
- For the game, Olivet posted a season-high 24 hits, including seven doubles and three home runs.
- Suggitt went 5-for-6, with five RBI. He is the fifth UOlivet player since 2003 to have five hits in a game. Parten and Duncan each had four hits. Duncan scored three runs and drove in four. Kuzara finished with three hits, including two doubles.
- Freshman Jacob Wadsworth started on the mound and lasted only two-thirds of an inning. Freshman Teegan Glennon pitched five and one-third innings, allowing four runs (on earned) on three hits. Sophomore Austin Wittrock tossed an inning and one-third. Lewis was the winning pitcher after getting the final two outs in the eighth and all three outs in the ninth.
