ROCKFORD, Mich. – The University of Olivet baseball team was swept by Aquinas College in a non-conference doubleheader today at the Meijer Sports Complex. The Saints won by scores of 6-2 and 18-1.
THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Saints used a two-out rally to push across two runs in the second inning. Aquinas added to their lead with a single tally in the third inning. The Comets closed the gap to 3-2 when freshman Hogan McCleary blasted a two-run home run in the fourth inning. The Saints countered with two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth for the 6-2 final score.
- Olivet ended the game with just five hits. The lone extra-base hit was McCleary's home run. The other hits were singles by sophomore Austin Alflen, sophomore Jack Friesen, junior Isaac Moore and junior Brody Parten. Freshman Carter Peterson suffered the pitching loss after yielding six runs on eight hits in the complete game performance.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Saints scored at least one run in each of the first four innings – one in the first, three in the second, six in the third and four in the fourth – to take a commanding 14-0 lead.
- Senior Tyler Rupp led off the fifth with a single to break up a no-hitter. He was then picked-off first base before sophomore Brody Lehman roped a single to the left-center gap. Lehman ended the shutout when he scored on a groundout off the bat of senior Ben Helgevold.
- Aquinas ended the scoring with a four-run sixth inning. The Comets had two hits in the seventh but failed to score any runs.
- Olivet recorded only four hits. The extra base hits were Lehman's triple and a double by freshman Brady Southfield. Freshman Kaleb Post was charged with the pitching loss after giving up four runs on three hits, two walks and three hit batters over the first two innings.
UP NEXT
- Olivet now turns its attention to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play which begins with a three-game series Friday and Saturday, March 28-29, against Calvin University. The Comets and Knights play a single game at Olivet's Cutler Athletic Complex on Friday, starting at 4 p.m., and the series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
