RICHMOND, Ind. – Senior Bryan Carney struck out a program record 17 batters, as The University of Olivet baseball team xxx Earlham (Ind.) College split its season-opening doubleheader today at Randal R. Sadler Stadium. The Comets won the opener, 2-0, behind Carney's gem, and the Quakers rallied to win the nightcap, 9-3.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
- The Comets scored the only run they needed in the first inning. Senior Will Myrick led off with a single, advanced to second on a ground out, stole third base and scored on a passed ball. Olivet added an insurance run in the fourth inning after junior Austin Alflen hit a leadoff triple and came around to score on junior EJ Suggitt's sacrifice fly.
- On the mound, Carney allowed three hits and zero walks over seven innings to earn the win. Junior Logan Lewis struck out four batters over the last two innings to earn the save.
GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
- Earlham scored three runs in the second inning. Olivet made the score 3-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Senior Tyler Duncan reached on a single before Myrick hit a double. Senior Nate Droste brought home both runners with a two-run single. The Comets tied the game in the top of seventh when Myrick singles and Droste laced an RBI-double. The Quakers pushed across two unearned runs in the bottom of seventh and four more runs in the eighth inning.
- At the plate, Droste was 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI. Myrick and junior Isaac Moore each had two hits. Freshman Dawson Sherman was charged with the pitching loss after surrendering the final six runs over two and two-third innings.

- The Comets and Quakers will complete the series with two games tomorrow, starting at 12 p.m.
