Three UOlivet pitchers combine for 1-0 shutout win over Otterbein

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Three pitchers combined to throw a two-hit shutout, as The University of Olivet baseball team edged Otterbein University (Ohio), 1-0, tonight at the Polo Grounds Field and on its final day of the Ripken Baseball Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets scored the only run in the top of fifth inning. Freshman Mario Ricard led off with an infield single. Senior Owen Smith's sacrifice but advanced him to second base. Senior Tyler Duncan then lined a double into the left-center field gap to score Ricard.
- The three Olivet pitchers did not allow any Cardinal base runners to reach third base. Otterbein retired 1-2-3 in five of the nine innings.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Bryan Carney started on the mound and allowed two hits over the first seven innings to improve his season record to 3-1. Junior Austin Wittrock pitched the eighth inning, while junior Logan Lewis threw the ninth to pick-up his third save.
- Ricard recorded two of the four Olivet hits. He also stole four bases.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The last time Olivet won a game by a 1-0 final score was May 6, 2017, against Alma College.
- The last time the Comets beat a non-conference opponent, 1-0, was March 3, 1997, against Muhlenberg (Pa.) College.
- Ricard's four stolen bases ties the most swipes in a game since the 2003 season.
