UOlivet baseball trio named to CSC Academic All-District® team
OLIVET, Mich. – Three student-athletes from The University of Olivet baseball team have been named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® team. The honorees are seniors Bryan Carney, Mikey Kuzara and EJ Suggitt.
To be selected to the Academic All-District® team, the student-athlete must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average. Position players must have started in 90 percent of the team's games OR played in 66 percent of the team's games, while pitchers were required to make at least 17 appearances OR thrown 35 innings. Each school was also limited to four nominations per gender.
Carney, an insurance and risk management major, was the ace of the Comets' pitching staff. He posted a 1.35 ERA and struck out a single-season UOlivet record 122 batters across 11 starts and 73 and one-third innings. Carney earned many accolades for his performance, including D3basball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-America First Team, D3baseball.com and ABCA All-Region, All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) First Team and MIAA Pitcher of the Year.
Kuzara, also an insurance and risk management major, was Carney's battery mate, as he started 23 games behind the plate and three other games at designated hitter. Kuzara posted a .209 batting average to go along with 11 runs scored, 19 hits and 12 RBI. He ended his Olivet career with the second-best fielding percentage at .988.
Suggitt, an accounting major, played in 31 games and started 27 games for the Comets, 12 at first base and 15 at designated hitter. He led the team with a .330 batting average and 34 hits, while tying for the lead with 21 RBI. Other stats were .456 slugging percentage, 18 runs scored, seven doubles, two home runs, 16 walks, .440 on-base percentage and six stolen bases.
Following a vetting process by a national committee, Carney advances to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot, voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 23.
