Football team loses to Albion 52-7
The Olivet College football team lost 52-7 to MIAA rival Albion College today at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College football team lost 52-7 to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College today at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium in Albion.
The Britons raced out to a 24-0 halftime lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Clinton Orr, a 75-yard touchdown pass from Alex Harris to Brian Spencer, a 13-yard blocked punt return for a touchdown by Mike Vandermus and a 33-yard field goal by Nick Pendell.
Albion added to its lead in the third when Harris connected with Spencer for a 34-yard touchdown reception and Orr ran 61 yards for a score. Olivet scored its touchdown with 3:46 left in the third stanza when junior Edric Miller (Battle Creek/Central) ran two yards into the end zone. Junior Blake Iobe (Marshall) made the PAT kick. The Comets needed to go only 36 yards on nine plays after senior James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) returned a kickoff 49 yards.
The Britons capped the game's scoring with two fourth-quarter touchdowns. Tyler Kramer caught a 17-yard pass from Harris, and Logan Anes had a one-yard run.
Olivet finished the game with 175 total yards of offense to 435 yards for Albion. Miller led the Comets' ground game with 87 net yards on 14 carries. Senior Mike Martin (Caledonia/Wayland Union) had 12 rushes for 50 yards. Freshman quarterback Daniel Bolster (Dundee) threw for 72 yards on 11-of-19 passing. Williams caught two passes for a team-leading 30 yards. Senior Aaron Breneman (Pinckney) topped the defense with seven total tackles, while senior Robby Jensen (Boyne City) and junior Nick McCleary (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) each had six.
For the Britons, Orr carried the ball 21 times for 144 yards. Harris completed half of his passes, 12-of-24, for 212 yards and three touchdowns. Spencer had seven receptions for 140 yards. John Lesinski and Brett McCarty recorded 11 tackles apiece.
The Comets host Trine (Ind.) University next Saturday, Oct. 29. Kickoff from the Cutler Athletic Complex is 1 p.m.
