Olivet College picked seventh in 2012 MIAA preseason football poll
The Olivet College football team has been picked seventh in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) preseason poll, announced today by the league publicist.
ROYAL OAK, Mich. -- The Olivet College football team has been picked seventh in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) preseason poll, announced today by the league publicist.
In voting by the coaches and media, the Comets received 32 total points. Adrian College was selected as the preseason favorite with 10 points, followed by Albion College and Trine (Ind.) University with 11 and 16 points, respectively. The rest of the top six were Hope College (17) in fourth , Alma College (30) in fifth and Kalamazoo College (31) in sixth.
Dan Pifer will begin his first season as the Comets' head coach. He came to Olivet after a successful stint as an assistant coach at Trine, helping the Thunder win three straight MIAA championships from 2008-10. Pifer expects 15 seniors to return to the team in 2012.
The Comets will open the 2012 season Sept. 1 when they travel to play Robert Morris (Ill.) University. Game time is 1 p.m. CT/2 p.m. EST.
