Football team selected fourth in MIAA preseason coaches’ poll
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Olivet College football team has been selected fourth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) preseason coaches’ poll.
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Olivet College football team has been selected fourth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) preseason coaches' poll.
Defending MIAA co-champion Hope College was chosen the preseason favorite with 10 points and received three first-place votes. Albion College was second with 11 points and two first-place votes. Trine (Ind.) University was next with 12 points and picked-up the remaining two first-place votes. The Comets were fourth with 21 points, followed by Adrian College in fifth (26 points), Alma College in sixth (31 points) and Kalamazoo College in seventh (36 points).
Olivet finished the 2021 season with a 7-3 overall record and was fourth in the MIAA with a 3-3 record. The Comets welcome back approximately 75 players from last year's team in 2022. Highlighting the group of returning players are senior All-MIAA offensive linemen Christopher Beck and Andrew Sikkema. On special teams, senior two-time All-MIAA punter Brendan Sine returns. Seniors David Curl and Anthony Merriman III, and juniors Deonte Higgins and Spencer Tyler earned All-MIAA honors in 2020-21 and are back.
The Comets open the 2022 season Saturday, September 3, when they host Franklin (Ind.) College. Kick-off from the Cutler Athletic Complex is 2 p.m. Olivet's MIAA opener is its annual Homecoming game October 8 against Kalamazoo College, starting at 2 p.m.
