Olivet downed by Trine, 35-28

ANGOLA, Ind. – The University of Olivet football team suffered a 35-28 loss to Trine (Ind.) University in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) game at the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trine took a 7-0 lead when Ivyn Collins threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Tristan Burrus with 11:43 left in the first quarter.
- Olivet immediately answered on its ensuing drive. On a third and 9 play, junior quarterback Thomas Foust scored a 64-yard rushing touchdown. Senior Tristan McElhinney's PAT kick split the uprights.
- Freshman Javon Anderson recovered a Thunder fumble with 10:00 remaining in the second quarter. The Comets took possession at the Trine 21-yard line. On the fifth play, junior Dontal Wright rushed four yards into the end zone. The PAT kick was good to make the score 14-7.
- An Olivet fumble gave the ball to the Thunder near midfield. Trine scored a touchdown when Collins connected with Burrus from 15 yards out in the final minute of the opening half. The PAT kick evened the score.
- Trine took advantage of another Comet turnover to score seven points on a 44-yard pass play. After being pinned deep into its own end of the field, the Thunder used a 73-yard run to flip the field and get the ball down to the Olivet 1-yard line. Craig Nichols scored from a yard out to make the score 28-14 at the 6:37 mark of the third quarter.
- The Comets cut their deficit down to seven points, 28-21, when freshman Tronice Hammond ended a nine-play drive with a 3-yard run into the end zone.
- Trine used an 11-play drive to stretch its lead back to 14 points with 4:03 left in the game.
- Olivet answered with a scoring drive, capped by a five-yard touchdown run by Foust, to make the score 35-28.
- An on-side kick attempt was recovered by the Thunder.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the game, the Comets totaled 22 first downs and 427 yards compared to 17 first downs and 380 yards for Trine.
- Foust had 15 carries for 173 yards to go along with 87 passing yaurds.
- Wright rushed for 101 yards on 27 touches.
- Four different receivers hauled in one pass apiece.
- McElhinney made each of his four PAT kicks.
- Junior Dominico Tejeda recorded a team-leading nine tackles.
- Freshman Draven Langston finished with seven tackles.
