UOlivet drops Homecoming game to Adrian, 59-27

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet football team suffered a 59-27 setback to Adrian College in its Homecoming game today at the Cutler Athletic Complex.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bulldogs led 38-0 at halftime behind two touchdowns in the first quarter, followed by three touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter.
- Adrian added another touchdown early in the third quarter.
- The Comets dented the scoreboard for the first time with 4:25 left in the third stanza when senior Charlie Grant threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to freshman Carter Leatherwood.
- After forcing the Bulldogs to punt, Olivet scored a touchdown on its next drive when junior Rashawn Mersier hauled in a 31-yard touchdown pass.
- On the ensuing kickoff, the Comets recovered the free kick at the Adrian 33-yard line. On the fifth play of the drive, Grant completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to Leatherwood.
- The Bulldogs responded with a 43-yard touchdown pass to make the score 52-20.
- Junior Carlton Freeman returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown for Olivet's final touchdown with 6:13 remaining in the game.
- Adrian answered on the first play of its next possession on an 84-yard touchdown pass.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet finished the game with 12 first downs and 233 yards of offense compared to 26 first downs and 607 yards for the Bulldogs.
- Grant completed 21-of-39 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns.
- Leatherwood caught five passes for 85 yards.
- Freshman Wade Brashears had six receptions for 59 yads.
- Freshman Jaylan Johnson led the ground game with six rushes for 19 yards.
- Freshman Javon Peterson topped the defense with 17 tackles (11 solo and six assisted). Two and one-half of the tackles were for negative eight yards.

- The Comets travel to play at Kalamazoo College next Saturday, October 4. Kickoff from Angell Field is at 2 p.m.
